Get to know our new Logistics and Client Coordinator!
Where are you from?
I was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, but grew up in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
What past job or experience best prepared you for the work you are now doing with A Vontade Tours?
I used to work in the public relations department of a non-profit community-based theatre organization in the Netherlands, where among so much more, I developed my organizational skills, worked with people from diverse backgrounds/cultures etc and most importantly, learned to ALWAYS DOUBLE IF NOT TRIPLE CHECK EVERYTHING. In Ethiopia, I worked as the senior management assistant in the Defence Department, where I gained more office experience. But what has prepared me most for A Vontade Tours is the fact that booking hotels and flights was a part of my job there a well.
Why do you think Cabo Verde is an attractive destination?
Besides the obvious (being surrounded by the ocean), rich history, plenty to see and explore (10 Islands), great food, great music and you will never need a winter coat.
What is one thing that has surprised you most about life in Cabo Verde?
Having lived in both Europe as well as Africa prior to moving to Cabo Verde, I see how much more developed Cabo Verde is (than many other African countries). It actually feels like being in both depending on the locations. And another thing, even though it’s such a small place, we have all that we need. I don’t miss “things” from Europe as much as I did while living in Addis, Ethiopia.
What is your favorite food?
If we are talking about Cabo Verde, it’s got be cachupa (with all the meats). But my all-time favorite food is Ethiopian cuisine.
What are a few of your favorite hobbies/pastimes?
I love dancing and spending time with friends and family.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Seeing our clients/guests happy, enjoying their trip and wanting to come back.
What is one thing you hope our guests will feel or experience during their trips?
I hope they feel peace when they look at the ocean, and the comfort of feeling like coming back home for the ones in search of their roots. Overall a sense of joy and again, wanting to come back!
